Classic Starts off Right for Warriors in 106-80 Victory

Five juniors sparked the offense in double figures

ROCKLIN, Calif. - The Warriors tipped off their second of three home tournaments this season with the William Jessup Classic brought to you by Placer Valley Tourism taking on SAGU-American Indian College Thursday night. With yet another impressive offensive performance, the Warriors defeated the SAGU Warriors 106-80 with five players in double figures to advance to 9-2 overall on the season, remaining undefeated in Warrior Arena.

"Ultimately we focus on what we do and how we do it," head coach Lance Von Vogt said. "Tonight I thought we did a good job, but I also think there were times we got a little too loose."

Leading the way was junior Luis Medearis who sparked the Warriors offensively out the gate with a basket from beyond the arc to get Jessup on the board, followed by a bucket through the lane for the first five points to take the lead over SAGU-American Indian College for good.

Accompanying Medearis' high 20 points was familiar scorers in junior Keith Phillips who had an impressive game from the hardwood going 7-10 with 18 points on the night accompanied by 7 assists, and also in his third season, Tate DeLaVeaga had 14 points with a pair of threes down the stretch going 5-for-9 from the field. Closing out the offensive showing was point guard Brandon Lindsey with 10 points and 4 assists and senior P.J. Posey with 10 points respectively.

"When we packed into the paint we did really well," Von Vogt reflected, "but when we shot from the three-point early in the shot clock we struggled. All in all, I thought we did a good job in transition and our points in the paint were really good."

The Warriors will return to Horton Court tomorrow for their second game of the William Jessup Classic taking on Northwest Indian College at 7 pm, followed by the Classic wrap-up on Saturday at 1 pm against New Hope Christian.
