ROCKLIN, Calif. - Returning to Horton Court for game two of the William Jessup Classic sponsored by Placer Valley Tourism was the men's basketball team hosting Northwest Indian College in what would be a record-setting game for the Warriors. In the 122-68 victory over the Eagles, Jessup set the program record for highest points scored, most rebounds and assists, as well as solidified the best start in program history improving to 10-2.
Head coach in his fifth season,
Lance Von Vogt reflected on his team this year and the opportunity they have to reach great heights, "Our goal is to be the best version of ourselves each time we step on the court and this team has embraced that philosophy and I believe it reflects in our record and the setting of new standards for Jessup."
All 13 in blue and white stepped on the court tonight with 12 putting points on the board, and a record-high for Von Vogt, eight in double figures. The versatility of the Warriors showed with the teamwork displayed on the court and the unselfishness of the ball with a program record 32 assists.
"I don't ever recall having eight guys score in double digits in the same game, but I think it shows the true unselfishness of this particular group of guys," said Von Vogt. "If I'm not mistaken it was a program record for assists in a game which I am especially proud of."
The Warriors were led by junior
Luis Medearis for the second night in a row scoring a team-high 19 points, going 3-3 from beyond the arc and shooting 7-for-11 from the field. Also leading the Warriors with his second double-double of the season was
Antonio Lewis with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
Austin Dill added his 14 points with 8 boards, a season-high in both categories for him followed by double figures from
Keith Phillips (13),
Wilson LaShells (11),
Tate DeLaVeaga (10),
Luke Walker (10) and
P.J. Posey (10).
Coach was impressed by the trio of juniors leading in scoring, "I thought that Medearis, Lewis, and Dill led the way tonight for us with their energy on both ends of the floor. "
The Warriors will close out the William Jessup Classic tomorrow afternoon taking on New Hope Christian at 1 pm in Warrior Arena.
"Looking forward I believe the extended minutes the entire team logged tonight really prepares us for league play," Von Vogt concluded.
