ROCKLIN, Calif. – Returning to their home floor fresh off a short two-game road trip this past week, the Warriors welcomed the No. 6 ranked Biola University Eagles to Warrior Arena. Already holding a victory over the Eagles this season, the Warriors were unable to take the regular season series as Biola came out on top, 74-58.
"Give Biola credit, they came in tonight and did what they do best," said head coach
Lance Von Vogt postgame. "We beat them on their home court earlier in the year, and I knew that they were going to come in ready to play, and they did."
Senior
Chris Murry (Fremont, CA) led the Warriors in scoring Thursday with 22 points. The senior guard set Jessup's offensive tone early by connecting on three first-half 3-pointers, finishing 6-for-12 from long range on the night.
"
Chris Murry hit some big shots and I think he played a pretty solid game," Von Vogt said of his shooting guard.
After starting the game tied 7-7 early on, the Eagles pushed out to a 13-2 run to go ahead by the score of 20-9. The run would be ended by a Murry 3-pointer.
Senior
Micheal Patterson (Amarillo, TX) provided a spark on both sides of the ball in the first half, as Patterson provided a block on a Biola three attempt and then converted on a three-point-play on Jessup's next possession.
Patterson would also add some life to Warrior Arena at the buzzer in the first half, as he would find nothing but net on a long three-point attempt to send the game into the break with Biola leading 40-28. Patterson ended the night with 15 points and 8 rebounds.
Jessup shot just 25.7-percent from the field in the second half Thursday, as opposed to a 47.1-percent final 20-minutes by Biola. The Eagles saw the bulk of their scoring opportunities come at the line, as they made 26 of their 48 free throws. The Warriors recorded 33 fouls in the loss, as opposed to 19 from Biola.
"You have to make your shots inside the two-point range. We had a lot of them point-blank at the rim that we just didn't complete. You have to be able to make those basketball plays at the rim," said Von Vogt of his team's shooting performance.
Reigning GSAC Player of the Year Dakari Archer led all scorers Thursday, as he dropped 25 with 11 of those coming from the line. Trevor Treinen (16) and Jeff Gonzalez (11) also finished in double-figures for the Eagles.
Thursday was #Play4Kay Night in Warrior Arena, as the Warriors and fans in attendance donned pink in support of Breast Cancer Awareness. With over 400 in attendance, 100-percent of the ticket sale proceeds Thursday will be donated to the Kay Yow Foundation.
With the loss, the Warriors' fourth in a row, Jessup falls to 16-9 overall and 6-5 in GSAC play. Jessup will host San Diego Christian College at 7:30 p.m. Saturday for William Jessup University's annual Homecoming game.
