ROCKLIN, Calif. - Kicking-off a three-game home series, the Warriors played host to No. 19 Biola University on Thursday for #Play4Kay Night. With well over three-hundred fans coming to support breast cancer awareness night, the Lady Warriors played a strong first half with the ranked opponent, only to lose steam in the second half to fall to the Eagles, 62-79.
Picking up her fifth game this season with 20-plus points, junior
Ashlyn Jones (Stockton, Calif.) posted her sixth double-double this season with 25 points and 10 rebounds. With strong first two-quarters, Jones had 10 points with three rebounds. A strong finish for Jones put her over the top.
For the first half, Jessup set the pace with the Eagles, exchanging baskets through the first quarter with three lead changes. Biola capped the final 1:30 of the first quarter on a 7-0 run to hold the lead, 23-16.
Biola would have as much as a 10-point lead just 4 minutes into the second quarter, but the Warriors chipped away that lead sparked by a three-pointer from starting junior
Janelle Luu (Modesto, Calif.) to come within 6-points with just under 4-minutes to play.
Down the stretch, Jessup would go 6-0 from the line with a pair of layups from guard
Leilua Iosia (Gig Harbor, Wash.) to finish just down by a single point (32-33) to head into the third quarter.
Early in the fourth quarter, the Eagles would run away with the lead set by a 7-0 run. Unable to gain momentum, the Warriors would be outscored 29-12 in the third quarter as Biola lead 62-44 with the final 10-minutes to play in the fourth.
Despite outscoring the Eagles in the final quarter by one, 18-17, it wasn't enough to overcome the third quarter deficit that Biola set. The Warriors drop to 8-12 overall and 2-9 in conference play with the 62-79 loss to the Eagles in their final meeting for season play.
With over 400 in attendance, 100-percent of the ticket sale proceeds Thursday will be donated to the Kay Yow Foundation.
With two more home competitions ahead of them, the Warriors will face San Diego Christian on Saturday at 5:30 pm for this year's Homecoming Event. Finishing out none-conference play, the Warriors will host UC Santa Cruz on Valentine's Day at 5:30 pm in Warrior Arena.
