LINCOLN, Calif. – Coming off a loss in the series opener Friday afternoon, the Warriors got back on the field Saturday to play a doubleheader with the visiting Biola University Eagles. Even with a strong outing on the mound in game two, as well as multiple extra base hits, Jessup was unable to piece together a needed rally as they dropped both games, resulting in a three-game sweep.
GAME ONE
Biola got out to a very fast start Saturday, scoring six runs in the top of the first inning while sending 10 men to the plate. Cameron Morrow got the starting nod in game one, but he ended his day early, leaving the game in the first without recording an out. Morrow allowed five runs on five hits as the Warriors fell in game one of the day, 8-2.
Mikey Saldana entered in relief of Morrow, and proceeded to save the Jessup bullpen as he worked five innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits with no walks and three strikeouts. Mitchell Menns and Jake Thompson combined for four scoreless innings of relief after Saldana.
Jessup scored both of their runs via designated hitter Ben Knudsen, as he drove in a run with a single in the fourth, and then a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth. Both runs were scored by center fielder Sam Curtis. The Warriors also got a man to third base in the seventh, when Joshua Duitsman tripled to left center.
GAME TWO
Wyatt Haccou toed the rubber for the Eagles in game two, and other than one late blemish, his final line was rather impressive as he tossed a complete game. Haccou went all seven innings, allowing just one run on six hits, walking none while recording one strikeout for the win over Jessup 2-1.
One of the lone Warriors who was able to get to Haccou Saturday was catcher Dakota Spillers. Spillers pieced together a 3-for-3 day which included two singles up the middle, and a solo home run when Jessup was down to their last out of the day. Duitsman also recorded an extra base hit, as he went 2-for-3 with his second triple of the day.
Biola got their two runs in the third inning, with the first scoring on an RBI single to left field. The second run of the inning was scored on a throwing error. Hayden Piner started for Jessup, allowing those two runs (one earned) over six innings of work. Piner allowed just two hits on the day, but he walked six while striking out four.
