Lions Take Two from Warriors at Home

Warriors Rally in Game One with an In-the-Park Homerun by Curtis

LINCOLN , Calif. – The Warriors returned home for the first time since March 26th and continued their Golden State Athletic Conference schedule as they hosted nationally recognized Vanguard University at McBean Park. Both games were tight throughout, but in the end, the Lions won game one 8-4 and won game two 5-3.

Game 1
Game one dual from the mound was between the Warriors' Tristan Pryblinski and the Lions' Chris Lumanlan, collecting his 7th win of the season.

The Lions would score the first run of the day in the top of the first inning on a single up the middlebut the Warriors would respond with a run of their own in the bottom of the first on a bases loaded walk of Dakota Spillers that scored Joshua Duitsman.

Jessup would take the lead, 2-1, on a Sam Curtis double to left field that would score Rory Petersen in the bottom of the second, but with two outs the inning would retire with one left on.

But it was the Lions that would take the lead for good in the top of the sixth, scoring three runs on the frame with one coming on a wild pitch and two on a triple down the right field line. Vanguard would take a 4-2 lead after the top frame and add one more run in the top of the seventh to extend the lead to 5-2.

Continuing to battle at the plate, the Warriors would get two back in the bottom half of the seventh on a Curtis inside-the-park home run that scored Petersen to trim the Lions' lead to 5-4 at the end of seven innings. Despite the offensive surge for the Warriors, the Lions  had their own and tacked on three more runs in the top of the eighth – two on a Warriors' error and one on a single through the left side. Vanguard would leave the 8th with the final lead of the game 8-4.

For the Warriors, Curtis went 2-4 with three RBIs and one run scored, Javier Garcia went 1-3, and Petersen had two runs scored.

Game 2
Vanguard would start out the gate strong again scoring a run in the top half of the first inning but the Warriors would respond in the home half of the frame with a run that scored via a Lions' error.

The two teams were tied at 1-1 through the second inning before Vanguard would cross the plate again in the top of the third on a Warrior error. But the score would even right back up with the second bases loaded walk of the game, followed by a Justin Chase single through the right side that scored Curtis.

The Warriors had their first lead in game two after three innings, 3-2, but the Lions would knot the game at 3 each in the following inning.

Adding one more in the top of the seventh, the Lions led 5-3 after six and a half. In the bottom of the seventh, the Warriors would have the winning run at the plate but would leave two runners on to drop game two 5-3.

Josh Bailly got the win for the Lions and Cameron Morrow got the loss for the Warriors. Justin Chase went 1-1 with one RBI and Petersen went 1-4 with two runs scored.

The Warriors will finish up their home stand against the Lions tomorrow, weather permitting, at McBean Park. The first pitch is scheduled for 2 pm.
