Warriors Drop Conference Opener at Westmont

Harmelink Defended the Goal with 2 Saves Against Nationally Ranked Warriors

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Jessup men's soccer opened up league matchups on the road against nationally recognized (25) Westmont College but came up short unable to place the ball in the opposing Warrior's net for the 3-0 defeat.

Going scoreless for what would be 10-minutes shy of the whole first half, the Jessup Warriors defended their territory well, but in the 35th minute Westmont was able to slip one through for the 1-0 lead going into the break.

While outshooting Westmont 5-4 in the first 45-minutes of play, the Warriors struggled in the second half to counter the home team's attacks and the tables turned as Westmont outshot the Warriors 12-4 in the closing half.

Setting up what would be the only corner kick of the second half for the Warriors, Adolfo Guzman had a great ball to the inside where freshman Paul Anderson just missed the net as a defensive save went to Westmont on the far right post in the 55th-minute, still trailing 1-0.

Holding down the posts for the Warriors the whole 90 minutes was senior Robert Harmelink who defending 16 total shots delivered by Westmont, 5 on goal while collecting 2 saves. Offensively senior Aaron Roudebush led with a pair of shots on goal followed by Anderson and Christian Guzman both having a single attempt.

The Westmont Warriors would add two more goals midway through the second half to seal the deal, taking the conference opener 3-0 in the battle of the Warriors.

The trip will continue for the Warriors as they travel to The Master's University for a match on Saturday, kickoff slated for 1:30 pm.
