SANTA CLARITA, Calif. - The Jessup men's soccer team concluded their two-game road series to open conference matchups at The Master's University in a four 4-1 loss to the nationally recognized Mustangs, but senior
Robert Harmelink posting a career-record 11 saves for the Warriors.
Just a couple minutes into the game the Mustangs took the lead 1-0 after a shot was blocked by Harmelink and a second chance opportunity found the back of the net. But it wasn't too much later that the Warriors answered back with a goal by
Oscar Munoz from the 18 to sneak by the bottom right post to even the score 1-1 in the 12th minute.
Taking the 2-1, the Mustangs scored off a connection from a corner kick in the 17th minute that would remain the score after the first 45-minutes of competition.
Defending the post for 60 minutes in the blue and red was senior Harmelink who had 8 saves in the Mustangs 13 shots in the first half, and another three saves in his 15-minute outing in the second. With the 11 total saves, Harmelink is ranked among the top-10 most saves in a single-game for the program.
Adding another pair of goals in the 50-minute marks, the Warriors were unable to come back from the 4-1 Mustang lead.
With conference matchup just starting, the Warriors will be back to the Southern California circuit next week to take on Vanguard University on Thursday and Hope International on Saturday.
