Lady Warriors Pack the House for GSAC Home Opener

Jessup Unable to Gain Momentum Against No. 5 Westmont

ROCKLIN, Calif. - Playing for a full house, the women's volleyball team hosted Westmont College for their home GSAC opener. It was the battle of the Warriors with Jessup fighting hard to maintain momentum against the No. 5 team in the country, but the visiting Warriors came out on top, 3-0 (21-25, 9-25, 18-25).

"As a team, we are bummed about our performance tonight," head coach Shasta Millhollin reflected, "however, we don't have time to dwell on tonight's mistakes. Right now we are focused on tomorrow's match against The Master's University."

Defending home court, the Warriors came out strong holding the lead through the beginning of the first match. Westmont sat at set point for a Warriors 3-0 run but Jessup came up short losing the first set 21-25.

Westmont maintained their momentum that sparked at the end of the first set, taking an early lead over Jessup out the gate for the second game. Struggling to find their groove the Warriors went into the break down two sets.

Controlling the net for the Warriors' total 27 kills on the night was led by Vendela Williams (8), Makenzie Reeder-Esparza (7) and Kassidy Heuvelhorst (5). Jessica Williams continued to set up the Warriors with 25 assists and a pair of aces from the back line. Defensively Heuvelhorst had 3 total blocks and sophomore libero Kacey Berger accompanied with 13 digs.

The third set was a new Jessup Warriors team, coming out strong and countering each point Westmont put down. The Warriors trailed by just two (16-14) before Westmont gained back their attack and finished the run for a 25-18 victory taking three sets over the Warriors.

"We were really excited to see so many of our fans out at tonight's match," Millhollin concluded. "It means the world to us to have such amazing fans!"

The Lady Warriors will be back in action tomorrow hosting their second GSAC matchup of the week against The Master's University at 2 pm in Warrior Arena.
