FULLERTON, Calif. - The Warriors closed their final long road trip taking on Hope International in what would be a battle in the final minutes of double overtime where the Royals came out on top, 1-0 in the 106th minute.
Head coach
Rachel Constantini reflected stating, "It was a difficult battle today, the girls fought every minute of the game."Â
The energy on the field was evident from the start as the Warriors entered the complex ready to take on their next conference opponent, looking to seal their first conference win. Once the whistle blew the Warriors frontline was in attack mode with
Marissa Sanders sending in the first ball as the Royals' keeper came up with the save.
It was a back-and-forth motion as both teams had multiple opportunities to find the back of the net in the first half, Jessup with a total 4 shots to Hopes 5.
At the start of the second half the Warriors found themselves more in defensive mode with sophomore keeper
Camille Cavey continuing to come up big with multiple blocks from the home team's 9 shots and a pair of deflections from Warrior defenders.
"Camille had an exceptional game between the posts," Constantini stated "With Cassidy (Gray) and Yvette (Perez) also keeping us in the game with huge defensive saves. Our team stepped up huge today, making adjustments from our game on Thursday."
In the first overtime, Sanders had a look in the middle of the box attempting to send in a lob over the keeper but missed high as the Royals countered with their own shot missing wide for the only pair of looks in the extra period.Â
The final 10 minutes were put on the clock as the Warriors continued to battle in extra minutes but were unable to get a shot across before the Royals sent one to the back of the net in the 106th minute for the sudden death win over the Warriors, 1-0.
"This year has been one of constant trial but this team keeps fighting," said Constantini. "They know that their persistence will pay off in due time."Â
The Warriors will head home for their next five games on familiar ground hosting Arizona Christian next Thursday and San Diego Christian next Saturday.
