Warriors Fall in Final Minute Against the Raiders

Yvette Perez Scores for the Warriors in 3-1 Loss to Southern Oregon

ROCKLIN, Calif. - The women's soccer program played host to Southern Oregon on Monday, their second home match in the past three days, going into the game knowing their perseverance and stamina would be tested over the next 90 minutes.

After the Warriors and Raiders were held at a draw (1-1) through the 89th minute, Southern Oregon added a pair of late goals for the 3-1 win with just under a minute left in regulation.

"Today was a great battle with SOU. It came down to the last minute and unfortunately, it didn't go our way," head coach Rachel Constantini commented.

The Raiders took the 1-0 lead in the 9th-minute of play, but the early goal did not phase the Warriors as they continued to play with heart and determination to battle back from the small deficit.

Senior Marissa Sanders and junior Yvette Perez answered the Raiders call in the 33rd-minute when Sanders set up Perez with a nice header to the back of the net to even the score 1-1.

Both teams would head into the half with a goal each, wiping the slate clean for the second half.

Striking early, the Warriors were led by Kailee Soares who would have her opportunity to head it in but just missed high in the 50th minute, followed by a boot from Maria Chacon, saved by the Raider's keeper.

The Warriors would have another close call in the 73rd-minute when Soares hit the crossbar and freshman Madison Leonhardt countered with a shot high resulting in a corner kick for Jessup, but no connection made.

Down to the wire, the Raiders attacked the Warrior's territory with goalie Camille Cavey making two big saves, and junior Allie Rocha coming in with her own pair of blocks to keep Southern Oregon from taking the lead.

But a goal with 48-seconds left would seal the deal for the Raiders, adding one more in the final seconds for the 3-1 advantage over the Warriors.

"This team continues to grow, we're just looking for the final piece to complete our game," Constantini concluded. "We are excited to compete down in Southern California this weekend and be successful on the road."

Up next for the Warriors is a set of games in southern California kicked off against the University of La Verne on Thursday, followed by an early exhibition against Cal Lutheran University on Saturday.
