ATHERTON, Calif. – The William Jessup Volleyball team took to the road again for their third straight game away from home as they battled with the Menlo College Oaks losing in three sets, 25-14, 25-19, and 25-12.
After the game head coach
Shasta Millhollin shared her thoughts, "We made some good adjustments and fought hard. Menlo played very well and we made a few too many mistakes."
The opening set was a difficult one for the Warriors as their only lead came after the opening point. From there the Warriors were caught playing catch up and went on to lose the set 25-14.
The Warriors were able to put the tough start behind them and they put together a solid performance in the second set.
Laurie Stephan recorded a kill midway through the set giving the Warriors a two-point cushion, 11-9. Shortly after, it was
Michaela Zapata who tallied a kill, tying the game for the eighth time, 13-13. Despite the great start to the set, the Warriors were unable to capitalize, losing the set 25-19.
In the third and final set, the Warriors struggled to get into a groove as the Oaks scored the opening six points. Unable to establish a rhythm, the Warriors dropped the set 25-12.
Ashanti Grayer and Zapata led Jessup with five kills each while
Brianne Whitt had a team-high 10 assists.
Taylor Jacky was the leader, once again, in digs, recording 13. From the service line,
Madison Pelham had two aces with Whitt and Jacky each tallying one as well.
Coach Millhollin concluded by saying, "We are ready to get back in the gym to get ready for the weekend."
The Warriors will continue on the road with their next contest coming in Fullerton as they get set to take on the Hope International Royals on October 5
th at 5 PM.
