Warriors Drop Road Game at Cal Maritime

Unable to make second-half comeback, Warriors are now 5-3 overall

ROCKLIN, Calif. - The Warriors returned to the hardwood just over a week from their last matchup, heading to Cal Maritime for the second time this season, this time to face the Keelhaulers. Jessup men's basketball was unable to keep up with the home-court advantage dropping to 5-3 overall in the 73-64 loss.

"We were thoroughly outplayed tonight from the opening tip," head coach Lance Von Vogt commented. "We give credit to Cal Maritime for showing us what hard work, effort and togetherness is."

The Keelhaulers would hit the board first to open up the contest with the first five minutes a back-and-forth motion of leads between both teams as Jessup held their only lead of the game at the 15:43 mark in the first half. The home team would the then go on an 11-0 run to take the 20-9 advantage over the next three minutes.

Unable to answer back, the Warriors would trail by as much as 20-points with three minutes remaining in the first half, much thanks to the Keelhaulers hot hand, Justin Eisen who hit 5 threes in the opening frame.

Freshman Nathan Kasongo would hit a three to cut the margin and Austin Dill would add a free throw before the halftime buzzer as the Warriors trailed 38-21 heading into the break.

A spark would not go unnoticed for the start the second half as Jessup opened up with a 5-0 run. Leading scorer for the night, Jayden DeJoseph would hit the and-one free throw cutting the lead to 12.

Despite the Warriors efforts, the Keelhaulers would maintain the double-digit lead through the majority of the closing half, but a late comeback was not out of the question. Jaydon Clark would hit a three from deep, as the Warriors called a quick timeout with 1:23 remaining, down by just 12.

In efforts to stop the clock, the Warriors were forced to foul and the Keelhaulers would go 7-for-9 down the stretch from the charity stripe to deplete the made attempts on the other end by Jessup. The Warrior would drop their second-straight, 73-64.

"We will take a couple days for Thanksgiving break then we will be back at it on Monday and we will work tirelessly until we figure this out." Von Vogt went on to say, "I have every expectation that we will grow from this and that we will become a team that is capable of performing at a very high level."

Jessup will return to Warrior Arena next week to host their first pair of conference matchups with Life Pacific joining Thursday for Toys for Tot Night at 7:30 pm, and Hope International tipping-off Saturday at 2 pm.
