Trio in Double Figures Put Out Flames, 68-47

Zaragoza ties career-high 20 rebounds recording her fifth double-double of the season

ROCKLIN, Calif. - The Jessup women's basketball team found their way back to Horton Court after a 10-day break since their last win over No. 14 Menlo College. The Warriors welcomed Bethesda to Warrior Arena where a quick lead would outlast the Flames in a 68-47 victory advancing to 11-2 overall.

The Warriors would tip it off with a 10-point lead to start the first three minutes of the contest, as five home jerseys contributed to the 12-2 advantage. The lead would reach as much as 15 points after the opening quarter, as the leading scorer for the night Miranda Zaragoza hit back-to-back shots to close out the opening 10 minutes with the Warriors on top 22-7.

Outscoring the Flames 16-11 in the second quarter gave the Warriors the 38-18 lead at the break with Zaragoza already tallying a double-double with 11 points and 12 boards, JoeLyn Stirton was close behind with 10 points, going 2-for-2 from beyond the arc.

The second half would mirror the first as Jessup put up another 16 points to the Flames 9, and Lily Hagerty had a second-half high, 11 points for a total 16 on the night. Zaragoza continued her dominance on the boards with another 8 rebounds in the second half to tie the program's single-game record, set by none other than herself earlier this season with 20 total. Stirton would continue with another 5 points for 15 total on the night.

Heading into the final quarter, the Warriors would take their largest lead of the night, 63-29, but Bethesda University showed no sign of giving up as they outscored the Warriors in the final 10-minutes, 20-14. Despite the spark set by the Flames, the Warriors would finish on top with the 68-47 victory improving to an impressive season start of 11-2.

The Warriors will head home for the holidays and return after Christmas welcoming Cal Maritime to Horton Court on December 29th for Church Partner Night, tip-off slated for 5:30 pm.
