Home Run Derby Launches Warriors to 12-9 Victory

Jessup hits six home runs to defeat the Pioneers

HAYWARD, Calif. - Continuing their dominance in the box, the Warriors traveled to CSU East Bay for a midweek non-conference matchup where they had a program-record 6 home runs in one game, eight amongst both teams, for the 12-9 victory over the Pioneers to continue 14-3 on the season.

The Warriors would trail 2-0 after the first frame where the Pioneers hit the first two-run homer off starting pitcher Danny Vietti, but with their chance to battle back in the next inning Jessup posted four of their own runs off a three-run homer by Kawai Takemura and Sam Curtis coming in to score on a balk to make it 4-2 at the end of the second inning.

In the following inning, Connor Braun would take a hack clinching his home run to center field making it 5-2, and Austen Swift clearing the bases in the fourth inning with the first of his two home runs on the day, this one scoring himself and Will Law. Curtis would also get an RBI scoring Noah Shackles to make it 8-2 headed to the bottom of the fourth.

Another home run would hit the books in the fifth, this time from GSAC Player of the Week Steve Pastora his fifth of the season.

The Pioneers would post a pair of come-back innings in the bottom of the sixth and seventh scoring five run to come within one, 9-8, Warriors with the slight advantage with two innings to go. But Jessup maintained the offensive presence and increased the lead with back-to-back home runs in the top of the ninth from Will Law (2RBI) and his second of the day, Swift.

Attempting to rally back in the final chance inning, the Pioneers posted one more run but it wasn't enough as the Warriors took the win, 12-9.

Vietti would clinch his second win of the season for his two innings pitched with help on the mound from Cameron Morrow (2IP), Josh Hook (2IP), Dakota Spillers (0.2IP), Jake Thompson, Grant Doi (0.1IP) and Steven Pastora (2IP).
