Battle of the Warriors Favors Westmont in Series Opener

LINCOLN, Calif. - Jessup took the field today against the Westmont Warriors in what would be a back-and-forth battle between two very talented sides, but despite the strong effort from Jessup, Westmont took game one of the three-game series 10-5.

Jessup was first to get on the board when Steve Pastora hit a solo homer, his 6th of the season, to give the Warriors the 1-0 advantage in the bottom of the 2nd.  The Warriors were able to maintain the lead until Westmont had back-to back-innings of aggressive offense, taking a 7-1 lead in the top of the 5th.

Jessup was quick to rally back in the bottom of the 5th. To start them off, Will Law would single to center field, advancing Sam Curtis from 1st to 3rd.  A wild pitch to Andrew Shaps would see Law to second, who was there shortly, as Shaps would single to left field, bringing home the runners in scoring position.  At the end of the inning, Jessup had closed the gap to 7-3.

In the bottom of the 7th Jessup found themselves at an 8-3 disadvantage but continued to battle as a single from Austen Swift brought Curtis across the plate.  Shaps would follow suit with another single bringing home Law, to cut Westmont's lead to 8-5.

Despite the efforts, at the end of 9 innings, the scoreboard would favor Westmont, 10-5.

Head Coach Jake McKinley was optimistic looking forward to tomorrow's doubleheader, "A lot of credit goes to Westmont. Their starter was very good, their defense made big-time plays, and they had several timely hits. I trust we have a mature group and we will bounce back tomorrow."

Jessup, now 6-1 in GSAC play and 14-4 overall will be back in action tomorrow to close-out the series with a doubleheader. Come out to support your Warriors in tomorrows with an 11 am slated first pitch with the 2 pm final game of the series to follow at McBean Park!
