Jessup Tops East Bay in Exceptional Comeback

LINCOLN, CA - The Warriors had a quick turnaround from their 3-game series against Westmont this past week and faced off against NCAA II opponent, CSU East Bay.  Jessup would find themselves in an unfamiliar predicament today, trailing for a majority of the game.  But they would find their way to yet another very convincing win, ending the game 14-6. With this win, Jessup advances to 17-4 overall, 8-1 in conference play.

The Warriors would enter the bottom of the 5th inning down 3-0 to the visiting Pioneers, but would find their rhythm as Connor Braun's double would bring around Austen Swift who was sitting in scoring position.  A Cal Koga single to right field would bring home Andrew Shaps, cutting the Pioneers lead to 3-2.  Following Koga's at-bat was Alex Nasukiewicz, whose own single would bring Braun across the plate for the tying run.  Not complacent with an even ball game, the Warriors continued to put numbers on the board in the form of a Josh Duitsman RBI that would see Joey Torres home and end the innings with the 4-3 lead.

Jessup came alive again offensively in the bottom of the 6th, thanks to a 3-run homer from Nasukiewicz, who would push Swift and Braun across the plate for a 7-3 lead.

The Warriors continued to be relentless in their pursuit to further themselves from the Pioneers as a Shaps single in the bottom of the 7th would see Howell home and bring Swift and Will Law to scoring position.  A Braun single to right field would be enough to bring both of them home, bringing the score to 10-3 in Jessup's favor.  A Torres RBI would bring Shaps in, quickly followed by a Nasukiewicz single to center that allowed Braun to come home and end the inning in a convincing 12-3 lead.

East Bay managed to put a run up on the board in the top of the 8th, only to be answered back with 2 runs from Jessup in the form of a 2-run homer from Swift who brought the score to 14-4.

The Pioneers added 2 more runs in the top of the 9th but after a day of bats progressively heating up, the Warriors would take home the win, finishing the day 14-6.  "It was good to see how our group responded when we fell behind. Several players contributed to the comeback in a lot of different ways, and the group elevated their enthusiasm when it was much needed" says head coach Jake McKinley, after his team's big turn around.

Later this week the Warriors hit the road to continue conference play in Arizona.  "Arizona Christian has extremely talented players and will be a tough matchup down in Phoenix. We need to put today's game behind us and focus on preparing well this week," comments McKinley on the upcoming series.
