ROCKLIN, Calif. - The Warriors tied the program-record for most season wins with their victory over San Diego Christian on Thursday night improving to 19-10, 5-8 with just one more matchup against the GSAC Championship host Arizona Christian on Saturday for Senior Day.
The Warriors started things strong with a 10-2 lead just four minutes into the game. As the Hawks continued to set the pace, slowing the Warriors down in transition, they would chip away at the lead to get within three (10-7) before Jessup would break away.
A long three-pointer by the Hawks with about six minutes remaining in the first half would get them the closest all game (23-21), but the Warriors would follow a with a 12-3 run to create the gap and a comfortable advantage to take to the locker room at halftime, 45-31.Â
In the first half, all nine Warriors that suited up would see the hardwood for some minutes, over half of them contributing to the Warrior's lead with
Brandon Lindsey leading the way with 14 points.
Head coach
Lance Von Vogt was pleased to see his team play well tonight, "We had a lot of guys play well tonight and I really liked how we shared the ball on offense."Â
In the second half, the Warriors would continue their offensive threat taking the lead by over 30 points midway through the final half.Â
Sharing the ball was the name of the game tonight as the Warriors posted a season-high 26 assists, which hits the record books for fourth best for a single-game in program history. Leading the passing game was
Tate DeLaVeaga with 7 assists, followed by point guard Lindsey who racked up 5 of his own.
Leading the scoring column in the box for the Warriors was sophomore Lindsey who had a career-high 26 points, going 3-for-3 from beyond the arc and 8-for-11 from the field. He was accompanied by Phillips with 18 points and 7 boards,
Brennan Rakoz with 16 points and five boards,
Wilson LaShells with 16 points and
Antonio Lewis rounding out the double figures with 12 points and 6 rebounds.Â
"Brandon (Lindsey) and Keith (Phillips) led the way for us tonight and Tone (
Antonio Lewis) and Worm (
Wilson LaShells) brought us some fire off the bench," Von Vogt said. "Rakoz played a terrific second half and gave us a nice low-post presence and Tate (DeLaVeaga) was extremely well versed tonight and impacted the game in all the other ways other than scoring."
The Warriors will close out the regular season on Horton Court Saturday hosting Arizona Christian at 3 pm for senior day.Â
"All in all it was a very good team win leading into our Senior Night game Saturday against ACU to improve positioning in the GSAC tournament and build a better resume for Kansas City," Von Vogt concluded.
