Jessup Takes Three in Tight Finish with Masters

Warriors defeat The Master's and keep rolling on seven-game win streak ranked No. 7 in the country

LINCOLN, Calif. - It was an all-out battle at McBean Park today as the ball game was gridlocked at 4 apiece for four innings between your nationally ranked No. 7 Warriors and RV The Master's Mustangs.  A combination of true grit on the mound and timely hitting would give the Warriors the final edge over the Mustangs.  With this conference sweep, Jessup advances to 29-6 overall and 19-2 against GSAC opponents riding a seven-game win streak.

With The Master's getting ahead early, Jessup found themselves having to chip away at a 4-0 deficit with the Mustangs knocking a grand slam in the first.  In the bottom of the 2nd, the Warriors started to find their pace offensively.  Steve Pastora would get things going with a double to center field but would be quickly brought around by Connor Braun's homer, cutting Master's lead in half.  With Noah Shackles sitting in scoring position, Will Law's single would send him across the plate, bringing the inning to a close at 4-3 in the Mustang's favor.

It wasn't until the bottom of the 5th that the Warriors would break through again, putting another run on the board courtesy of Braun's second homer of the day, the 56th home run of the season for the Warriors, still leading the NAIA in overall bombs.  The game would stay locked at 4-4 until the bottom of the 9th.

With the bases loaded, a 2-2 count, and 2 outs on the board, Kawai Takemura stepped up to the plate and singled through the right side, advancing pinch runner Grant Doi across the plate for the winning run.

Sam Curtis took the win on the mound today, striking out a career-high 10 batters and allowing only 4 hits through the final 4 innings.

"As we expected, this was a hard fought game that came down to the wire. Our guys showed a lot of character after falling behind and I'm proud of the resiliency we showed late in the game," reflects Head Coach Jake McKinley after their 7th straight win.

The Warriors will head south this week as they look to take on GSAC opponent San Diego Christian University in El Cajon, Ca on March 23rd and 24th.
