Eighth Innings Warrant Split on Day One of Warriors and Oaks Series

Jessup took game one with an explosive nine-run inning and Oaks take game two with a walk-off

ATHERTON, Calif. - Switching things up for the final series of the regular season, the Warriors hit the road to conference foe Menlo College for a doubleheader to kick off the series Friday. With an explosive eighth inning, the Warriors dominated the Oaks 13-3 in game one, but a crawl back by Menlo in the second game ended in their favor with a walk-off home run in extra innings taking it 5-4.

Taking the mound for the thirteenth time in his senior season was Tristan Prybylinski, who would pitch a strong five innings allowing just one run on five hits with three strikeouts to collect his eighth win of the season. Senior teammate Danny Vietti would come in to serve up the final three innings to get the save, his first of the season.

With a pair of walks to start the top of the fourth, Josh Duitsman broke through with a two-out RBI single to light up the board for the first time in the game. Kawai Takemura would follow suit with a 2 RBI single to extend the Warrior lead to 3-0.

The following three innings both teams would exchange runs with the Warriors pushing one across in the sixth with a solo-shot home run from Connor Braun, but the Oaks would tally one in the fifth and the seventh to make it 4-2 going to the eighth.

But a counter offer from Jessup would bust open the eighth inning with a trio of doubles by Braun, Steve Pastora and Sam Curtis, coupled with a triple from Austen Swift and a home run from Joe Starick for nine runs to take the final 13-3 to the finish.

Another early lead would come to the Warriors in game two with Will Law singling to open up the contest and making his way around the bases as Starick brought him in for the RBI. In the second inning, they continued with a pair of home runs over the left field wall by Noah Shackles and Sam Curtis for the 3-0 advantage.

The home team would add their first run of the game on the board in the bottom of the fourth, nevertheless, Jessup would answer back in the top of the fifth as Curtis made his way around the bases with a bunt single, stolen base and coming in to score off a hit by Swift.

But the Oaks would chip away at the Warrior's lead tying it up in the bottom of sixth and following up with a walk-off home run in the extra inning to take the 5-4 win.

The final game of the regular season and the last game of the series against the Oaks will be Saturday at 2 pm before the GSAC Champs prepare for the conference tournament April 30th through May 1st at Vanguard University.
