Warriors Walk Away with Win on Day 1 of GSAC Championship

Swift's solo shot put the Warriors on top to the end

COSTA MESA, Calif. - Jessup started off the GSAC Tournament strong, putting The Master's away with a score of 3-2. This Warriors advance to 36-15 on the season, clinching the most wins Jake McKinley has had as a head coach in his career. With their first trip to the tournament, this is the first win as they continue to work hard to capture the GSAC Championship title.

Jessup got ahead quickly, putting 2 runs up in the bottom of the first frame.  Leadoff hitter, Will Law, took his base on a walk, followed by a walk for Steve Pastora.  An Austen Swift walk would load the bases with no outs for Cal Koga.  A sac-fly from the catcher would bring home Law, putting the first run of the day up on the board.  Joe Starick's RBI single would bring around Pastora, putting the Warriors ahead of the Mustangs 2-0.

The Masters would answer back in the top of the second, adding 2 runs to the scoreline to even out the ball game.  The game would stay locked at 2-2 for the next 4 innings.

GSAC Co-Player of the Year, Swift, would break open the game with a bomb over the right-field fence in the bottom of the fifth.  Jessup would hold onto this 3-2 lead through the remaining four innings, courtesy of stellar pitching from Tristan Prybylinski and Tyler Fujimoto

Prybylinski went a strong 7.2 innings, scattering 6 hits, and sitting down 8 batters. He advances to an impressive 9-1 on the season. The game was sealed as Fujimoto took the mound for the remaining 1.1 innings, allowing no hits and striking out 2 batters.

Head Coach Jake McKinley reflects on the day, "That was a great baseball game and I thought we showed a lot of poise on both sides of the ball. Tristan was superb and Fuji picked us up late. The at-bat quality was good all day too."

The Warriors will get back at it tomorrow at 12 pm against Westmont College.  "It's important that we flush today and move on to our next task. Westmont is a very talented team, so we know we will have our work cut out for us," comments Coach McKinley.
