ALISO VIEJO, Calif. - Hitting the road for their season-opener, the Warrior's women's soccer team had the go-ahead goal with three minutes to spare in the first half, and sealed the deal with a pair of goals in the second half to shut out SOKA to kick-off the season, 3-0.
Head coach
Rachel Constantini was pleased with her team's performance, "Today's match was an excellent start to our season. We've shown extremely well in our preseason scrimmages so I anticipated the girls to come out strong, but they exceeded my expectations today."
With the Warriors taking the lead 10 shots to 5 in the first half, a connection was made in the back of the net for junior transfer
Cannessa Lewis receiving a pass from senior
Janelle Schuette sending it to the low far post in the 42-minute of the first half for the 1-0 advantage.
"They have been able to take halftime critique and apply it to the game incredibly well," Constantini said. "It's great to have so many different players find the back of the net so early in the season."
Another 8 shots would be tallied in the Warrior's column as the Lions had five in the second half and two saves were recorded by starting keeper
Camille Cavey in the first half.
With just 20-minutes remaining in regulation, the Warriors would strike the back of the net another two times before the final horn. Schuette would add to her assist earlier in the game with a goal in the 70-minute this time sent in from
Madison Leonhardt and Schuette making the connection with a header.Â
Up 2-0 the final goal for Jessup would come in the 81-minute from familiar forward Lewis collecting her second goal of the game taking a 3-0 lead and maintaining the final 8 minutes for their first win of the season with a shutout.Â
The Warriors will return to their home pitch this week hosting Sierra Nevada on Tuesday, Multnomah University on Saturday and Oregon Tech on Memorial Day.
"This is a special group of girls who've been complimented on their heart and ability to fight- we're very excited for this season," Constantini concluded.
