ROCKLIN, Calif. - Jessup made their way back to home field after a five-road game series facing the Pacific Union Pioneers Friday afternoon where a trio of Warriors had a pair of goals each and five other Warriors scored for the 11-2 advantage to advance to 4-3 overall.
"I think more important than the score today was to find our rhythm. We were looking for good patterns of play with combinations of players," head coach
Greg Lazaga reflected. "I really liked our effort towards an uptempo and creative style of play. We still have pieces to clean up but really enjoyed watching our group have fun and score some goals."
After a long warm-up for the Warriors due to a delayed start time, sophomore
Paul Anderson didn't take long to spark the Warriors first half scoring surge with the first goal of the game coming in the 6th minute his second goal on the season.
Senior
Omar Magana would continue the action with back-to-back goals within three minutes of each other, the first in the 16th minute followed by his sixth of the year in the 19th. Less than a minute later
Tanner Federico was set up by
Johnny Muresan for his third goal of the season and the 4-0 advantage.
The final three goals of the half would come from
Heriberto Trevino (25'),
Bogdan Ponomar (30'), and
Devon Alvarenga (33'), with Muresan collecting his second assist of the game and Trevino nabbing one.
The final goal of the half would favor the Pioneers as the Warriors maintained a 7-1 lead at the break. But Alvarenga would score his second goal of the season and second of the game to open the final half in the 49th minutes, Muresan collecting a season-high third assist of the game.
Scoring their firsts goals of the year was Nick Tucker in the 51st minute, assisted by
Conner Entz, and Muresan closing it out with a double assist by Federico and Anderson. Federico would score his second goal of the game to join Magana and Alvarenga as the Warriors defeated the Pioneers advancing to 4-3 overall with one preseason match left.
Join the Warriors for poster giveaway day next Saturday as they welcome Bethesda University to close out non-conference play with kickoff slated for 11 am.
