Warriors Close Out Non-Conference in a 3-2 Battle

Magana scored his seventh goal of the season as Anderson collected his third and an assist

ROCKLIN, Calif. - Closing out the preseason schedule on home field, the Jessup men's soccer team hosted Bethesda University in what would be a close match with the first two goals answered right back by the Flames, but the game-winner would be in their advantage as the Warriors finish on the losing end of 3-2, now 4-4 headed into conference play.

The contest would start with a pair of shots from each team, Paul Anderson striking for the Warriors in the first 10 minutes of the game. But it would be the Warriors in the 13th minute that would score the first goal of the game as Anderson chipped it to senior Omar Magana up the middle for his seventh goal of the season.

The Flames would continue to press the Warrior defense as starting goalie Jordan Paton blocked the first attempt by Bethesda in the 24th minute, but a corner kick would deliver the ball for the Flames first goal, evening the game 1-1 just over halfway through the first half.

Tied after the first 45-minutes of play, the Warriors struck early in the second half with a goal in the 53rd minute, this time Anderson making the connection to the back of the net, his third of the season, assisted by Nick Tucker. The Flames did not grow tired as they scored right behind the Warriors, just 15 seconds later to even the score again, now 2-2.

The game-winner would come in the 65th minute for Bethesda as the Warriors battled down the stretch with a shot in the last 5 minutes, but weren't able to connect on a goal, losing 3-2.

This week the Warriors will take their first conference road trip to Southern California to face Westmont College on Thursday and Hope International on Saturday.
