SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Taking their first road trip to Southern California the William Jessup men's soccer program geared up to take on first 2018 GSAC competition in No. 17 Westmont College. A strong start for the Warriors favored Westmont late in the first half and a pair in the second half for the 3-0 advantage to open conference play over Jessup, now 4-5, 0-1.

Head coach in his third season, Greg Lazaga commented on today's contest but is looking forward to the season ahead. "A late mistake in the first half and an early mistake in the second really hurt us today. It is the first game of GSAC and we are really looking forward to learning and getting ready for our next opponent."

A scoreless 30 minutes in the battle of the Warriors started things in the conference opener, but a late goal in the first half would put the Westmont Warriors up 1-0 into the break, with Westmont leading the shots category, 12-1. 

Westmont would pick up where they left opening the final 45-minutes of play with a goal in the 53rd minute and the final goal hitting the net for Westmont in the 71st minute as they dominated the offensive force with another 15 shots in the second half.

Senior Nick Garcia returned to the net for the Warriors defending the posts for the full 90 minutes collecting 4 saves in his outing. Offensively leading Jessup was Paul Anderson had two shots and Derek Vredenburgh tallying one for the Warriors.

Jessup will take a day off before heading to their next conference matchup against Hope International on Saturday at 1:30 pm.
