Cavey Snags Season-High 9 Saves in Loss to Owls

Schuette scores lone goal for Warriors, third of the season

ROCKLIN, Calif. - The William Jessup women's soccer team struck first against Oregon Tech in the third minute, but  the Owls would answer back with a trio of goals in the remainder of the first half to ride to a 3-1 victory, evening Jessup's record to 2-2 on the season

The first half was full of entertainment as the Warriors hit the board first, in the third-minute Jessup delivered a corner kick from Hannah Massagli, where Janelle Schuette bangs it in for her third goal of the year.

"It was awesome to see Janelle find the back of the net again and start us off on the right foot," head coach Rachel Constantini said.

It wasn't until midway through the first half that the Owls would find the back of the net in the 25th minute and another shortly after in the 34th minute to take the 2-1 advantage. Their final goal of the game would come right before the half for the 3-1 lead.

The difference in the first half came down to possession and shots. The Owls attacked and had 10 shots compared to the Warriors 4. The second half was much of the same as the Owls match their first-half shots taken but a solid defense from the Warriors kept them scoreless in the final 45 minutes of play.

Camille Cavey continued to defend the posts for the Warriors collecting a season-high 9 saves, a career second best for the junior, 5 of those saves coming down the stretch in the latter half.

Coach was proud of her squad for their resilient defense in the final half, "The girls really had to dig deep today to hold off a talented OIT team in the 2nd half. Having quite a few veteran starters out, our younger players had to step up and fulfill the role for the entire 90 minutes. We are looking forward to Friday's match, as this resilient squad continues to want to improve and be the best they can be."

Jessup will continue their homestay as they look to rebound against Simpson University this Friday, September 7th, at 1 pm.
