ROCKLIN, Calif. - It was a day of firsts for the Warriors as the Maddy's led the force for women's soccer collecting a pair of goals each over Simpson University, meanwhile four teammates scored their first goals of the season as well in the 9-0 victory over the Redhawks to improve to 3-2 on the season.
"The game today was an excellent affirmation to our girls that we are capable of finding the back of the net," head coach in her third season
Rachel Constantini reflected. "We went into this match with the plan of playing simple and clean soccer and we did just that. I was very happy with our consistency of play and our finishing in front of the net."
Maddy Rojas start things off in the 5th minute striking her first goal of the year, followed by
Hannah Massagli's first that was assisted by freshman
Skie Mayo in the 12th minute. But the scoring didn't stop there for Rojas as she struck her second goal of the game just 6 minutes later coming again from Mayo to make it 3-0 over the Redhawks.
The Mad scoring continued with another pair of goals to end the second half as
Madison Leonhardt scored her first goal of the game and season in the 37th minute. The final goal of the half was launched by center-back
Cassidy Gray, her first-career goal for the 5-0 advantage at the half.
The fourth goal for the Maddy duo came to start the second half as Leonhardt found the back of the net in the 67th minute with a nice delivery from Rojas. Starting the second half between the posts in her first appearance in Warrior uniform was
Emma Whigam who had a nice save late in the second half to keep the Redhawks from scoring.
The Warriors would continue their offensive surge with
Isabel House scoring in the 69th minute and Mayo assisting her second ball of the day, freshman
Reese Zinzun scored her career first in the 76th minute and season-leading scorer,
Janelle Schuette closed things out in the 83rd minute with her fourth on the season set up by
Samantha Ross.
The Warriors will close out preseason play the next two weeks facing Academy of the Arts on Tuesday and traveling to UC Merced on Friday, Sept. 14th for a night game.
