Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Quinton Lilley

Warriors' strong start not enough in 4-0 loss at TMU

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. - On a day that turned out to be one of the windiest all season with winds nearing 40 miles per hour, the Jessup women's soccer team lost 4-0 to The Master's in their first road test of GSAC play Thursday afternoon.

Jessup coach Rachel Moorehead said her team's struggles in the second half were a key factor in the match's ultimate result. "This game was, once again, a tale of two halves. We came out ready to play in the first half and held our own. In the second half we broke down and were not able to recover."

Thursday's match began in a similar fashion to the week before as the Warriors (2-9, GSAC 0-2) defense played a strong opening half.  From the opening kick, the Mustangs (6-3-3, GSAC 1-1) put pressure on the Warriors backline with a shot in the second minute, but the Warriors responded back less than a minute later, as Alhan Bakideh put a shot on goal.

Then the Mustangs took offensive control with four shots over the next 11 minutes however none of them found the net. Then the Warriors got some good offensive momentum of their own earning a corner kick in the 19th minute.

The Warriors continued their strong defense in the final 25 minutes of the first half as they stopped eight shots from scoring. Bakideh also had her second shot on goal but it was saved by the Mustang's goalkeeper.

In the second half, The Master's was on the attack early as they scored in the 50th minute then again in the 56th minute taking a 2-0 lead. From there the Mustang's kept the Warriors on the defensive end of the field as they were held without a shot the remainder of the match.

The Master's scored insurance goals in the 75th and 80th minute before the Warriors sparked another offensive push. In the 81st minute, the Warriors earned another corner kick but the attempt was cleared by the Mustangs as they eventually took the victory.

Morehead said that while playing a strong opening half was good to see, the team has to find a way to play a complete 90 minutes to win consistently. "We talk a lot about intensity and its' importance throughout the entire match, not just the first 45 minutes. This is not a reflection of how well we can play but unfortunately, that doesn't change the result."

The Warriors continue their road trip south as they face San Diego Christian Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
