Warriors drop road contest at San Diego Christian

EL CAJON, Calif. - After a resounding road conference win two days ago the Jessup men's soccer team continued their GSAC road trip against San Diego Christian as the Warriors lost 4-1.

Saturday afternoon's match began with the Warriors (3-8-1, GSAC 1-2) and Hawks trading attacks as SDCC got the first shot of the day in the 11th minute and then had another in the 14th minute.

Jessup then responded with two shots of their own from Heriberto Trevino and Alvaro Ascencio however neither of them found the back of the net as both teams remained tied at zero.

After two more shots from the Hawks, SDCC broke the score with a goal in the 31st minute. The Hawks later continued their offensive push with another goal in the 33rd minute taking a 2-0 lead.

While SDCC had six more shots the remainder of the half, Jessup's Karam Idris and Paul Anderson also registered shots on goal but the Hawks' goalie saved both attempts allowing the home team to maintain their 2-0 lead at the halftime break.

The Hawks struck first in the second half with a goal in the 50th minute, however, the Warriors responded nicely earning a corner kick in the 52nd minute, a shot in the 54th minute from Denilzon Puentes, and ultimately a goal in the 57th minute by Josh Freeman cutting the deficit to 3-1.

However, that would be as close as the Warriors got as SDCC scored again in the 65th minute to grab the victory.

On the day the Warriors had 12 total shots with nine of them on goal, compared to 20 shots total from SDCC. Defensively, Robert Sams and Keegan Lewis combined for seven saves. Freeman's goal was the first in his GSAC career and second this season.

Jessup returns to the pitch at home Thursday when they host Arizona Christian at 1:30 p.m.
