GLENDALE, Arizona— The William Jessup Volleyball team extended their win streak to four games. Similar to the previous three games, the Warriors pulled out the win in dramatic fashion going the full five sets, 25-20, 16-25, 25-14, 16-25, and 15-13. The Warriors record now stands at 11-9 and 8-5 in the GSAC.
After trailing early in the first set, the Warriors scored five unanswered points to take a 7-3 lead. The lead bounced back-and-forth towards the end of the set, and after trailing 16-17, again the Warriors went on the attack scoring seven consecutive points and rode that momentum to an exciting set one win, 25-20.
The Warriors fell behind early in the second set and despite a late surge bringing the set within one point, ultimately Jessup lost 25-16, to even the match. Set three was off to a quick start for the Warriors and they dominated from start to finish as they led for the duration and won 25-14.
With the fourth set underway, the Warriors could see the finish line. But the light at the end of the tunnel escaped their grasp as the game was extended after Jessup lost the set, 25-16.
The fifth set was off to a fast start for the Warriors as they led 4-0 out of the gate, forcing the Firestorm to call a timeout. Things started to heat up as the set was tied on four separate occasions, with the last tie at 13 apiece.
Ashanti Grayer would break the tie as she was set up beautifully by
Brianne Whitt which allowed Grayer to record a timely kill putting the Warriors up by one while it was
Taylor Tarble who ended the match with a successful block as the Warriors won 15-13.
Continuing their road trip, the Warriors will take on Ottawa University of Arizona, Saturday at 1 PM.
