Warriors show valiant effort on Senior Day

ROCKLIN, Calif. - Seven seniors were honored in their final home match Saturday morning and while the Warriors put up a valiant comeback effort, Jessup lost to Hope International 2-1.

The Warriors (4-10-2, GSAC 2-4-1) came into Saturday's match on the edge of conference tournament contention and after falling behind by two, made a furious comeback scoring in the final 15 minutes before ultimately losing by one.

The match began at a rapid pace as Jessup earned their first shot of the day in the 4th minute from Paul Anderson. Then Hope created their own attacks in the 8th minute and the 13th minutes.

Then in the 16th minute, the Royals scored to take a 1-0 lead.

Hope continued their offensive attack with shots in the 20th and 21st minutes however senior goalie Jordan Paton saved the first attempt and the second was off target.

Later in the half, Nick Tucker put a shot on goal but the attempt was saved in the 30th minute.

Hope counter-attacked in the 36th minute with a shot, then followed it up with a goal a minute later.

At the half, the Warriors found themselves trailing 2-0.

In the second half, the Warriors took momentum when Nick Tucker nearly scored on a header in the 47th minute.

Hope responded with three shots of their own in the 55th, 57th, and 60th minute however none of them found the back of the net.

Jessup took the offensive momentum back in the 72nd minute as Jessup had shots by Josh Freeman and Anderson. However, Hope's goalie was up to the task as the score remained at 2-0 by the 76th minute.

The Warriors continued to pursue scoring opportunities and the effort paid off in the 78th minute as Anderson scored on an assist from Brennan Chanty.

Jessup tried to equalize the score two minutes later when Jadon Bernier got a shot but missed just high.

The Warriors made one last effort to send the match to overtime in the 89th minute as Beto Trevino had a shot but missed wide left and Hope took home the narrow victory.

Jessup coach Greg Lazaga said that he was pleased with the effort given on the field, but that his team needs to find ways to capitalize on more scoring opportunities.

"This is a results League and we are in the hunt for the playoffs. We obviously wanted this game so not being able to win it was tough to accept. That said I'm really proud of the effort, energy, and focus all the guys displayed today."

The Warriors close out their regular season schedule at Vanguard on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
