Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Quinton Lilley

DeJoseph leads Jessup's balanced attack

ROCKLIN, Calif. - The Jessup men's basketball team used a balanced attack Monday night to cruise to a 107-60 victory over New Hope Christian (OR).

With five players scoring in double figures coach Lance Von Vogt said he was happy to see his team get on track offensively as a unit. "Our balanced  offensive attack tonight is a good sign for us and it was really nice to see DJ (Jayden DeJoseph) get into a rhythm."

DeJoseph led all scorers with a career-high 22 points on 7-14 shooting while also grabbing a team-high eight rebounds.

The game began with the Warriors taking a 12-8 lead by the 15-minute mark, then the Warriors went on 9-4 run thanks to a three from Erik Kinnebrew, a layup from Jaylen Johnson, and a steal and layup by Isaiah Milan as the Warriors led 21-12.

Jessup later grabbed their first double-digit lead of the night at the 11:37 mark when DeJoseph scored again as the Warriors led 24-13. Both teams then traded baskets the following four minutes until Luis Medearis excited the crowd with a steal and dunk pushing the Warriors lead to 16 at 33-17 with 8:17 left in the half.

From that point, the Warriors went on a 12-3 run extending their lead to 25 capped off by a deep three-pointer from Medaris at the 3:34 mark and Jessup rode that momentum into the locker room as they led 49-26.

While the Jessup got some great transition chances that fueled their offense, Von Vogt said the team's defense was the key to them being able to push the pace led by Milan who forced three turnovers during that span. "Defensively we have a lot to clean up and get better at but when your senior point guard (Milan) takes three charges in a game it shows that we're willing to sacrifice for the team."

After attacking the paint most of the first half, the Warriors got hot from beyond the arc in the second half as the team shot 8-15. The Warriors began the second half on an 11-1 run sparked by a three from DeJoseph and they eventually pushed their lead to 33 with 16:24 left to play.

From there the Warriors cruised the rest of the night taking home their second-straight win.

As a team, the Warriors shot just over 50 percent from the field, and 41 percent from three. Jessup also forced 19 turnovers and scored 26 points off those mistakes. Jessup also held the fastbreak points advantage outscoring New Hope 19-6.

Including DeJoseph's career night, three other starters (Milan, Medearis and Austin Dill) each scored 16 points, and Kinnebrew came off the bench scoring 14 points and tied DeJoseph for a team-high eight boards while dishing out five assists

Jessup will now turn it's focus to the Bill Holtz Warrior Classic as they'll host Simpson Friday with tip-off set for 4 p.m.

Von Vogt said the weekend will be a good barometer for where the team is after two weeks of play. "We're looking forward to this weekend and it's going to be a challenge with two legitimate programs coming in to our building."
