ROCKLIN, Calif – The William Jessup Volleyball team had their five-game win streak halted in a four-set loss to Westmont College, 25-23, 21-25, 16-26, & 20-25.
Jessup was off to a fantastic start in the opening set, taking an early 5-1 advantage. However, Westmont quickly rallied back, bringing the score within one point, but Jessup kept the momentum going as they scored four unanswered points, forcing a timeout to be called.
Westmont wasn't going away quietly and eventually tied the game 23-23 after scoring consecutive points. A service error from Westmont put Jessup in a prime position to win and they capitalized on the opportunity with

The second set was a tough battle in which both teams struggled hold a lead. Late in the frame, the game was tied 19-19 and Westmont scored consecutive points taking a 21-19 lead and Jessup quickly called timeout to gather themselves. Out of the break, Jessup got a pair of kills from
Ashanti Grayer and Borges, tying the set once again. Westmont again scored consecutive points with Jessup also calling their final timeout. Unfortunately for Jessup, they were unable to get back on the board and lost the set, 25-21.
After difficult third set, Jessup was looking to force a fifth set. Despite going down 5-1, Jessup went on a scoring run themselves and soon trailed by only one point, 9-8. Anytime Jessup seemed to garner any momentum, Westmont shifted gears and after scoring eight of the next nine points, Jessup was down 17-9. The Jessup Warriors showed their fight in the set but the deficit proved too much to overcome and they lost 25-20.
Taylor Jacky and
Alicia Borges led way with 13 kills and for Borges that marks a new career high. Along the front line,
Taylor Tarble tallied a team-high four blocks while
Vendela Williams and Grayer each had two.
Brianne Whitt led the way with 19 assists, J. Williams had 16 and
Kacey Berger had her season best with 8. Defensively, Borges, Berger and, J. Williams all ended with 13 digs.
The Warriors will be back on their home floor tomorrow to take on The Master's University for senior day as it's the final home game of the year at 3 PM.
