Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Quinton Lilley

Warriors' defense leads to blowout win at NCU

Warriors force 19 turnovers and shoot nearly 50 percent from three in road win at NCU.

EUGENE, Ore. - After nine days off, the Jessup men's basketball team played arguably their best game of the season grabbing a 97-73 road win over Northwest Christian (OR) Friday evening in the Beacon Classic.

The Warriors (5-1) were led by their smothering defense that forced 19 turnovers and hot shooting beyond the arc. Isaiah Milan led the way as he continued his strong play scoring 28 points while hitting 4-for-8 from three.

Head coach Lance Von Vogt said he was pleased with his team's performance. "Tonight I saw a good foundation that we can build upon. We played with very good energy, effort, and toughness which will be key to grabbing road wins like this."

Three weeks ago the two teams played in Rocklin as the Warriors took a three-point win in a back-and-forth affair and that's exactly how the second meeting began.

Jessup took an early 10-4 lead thanks to three-pointers from Luis Medearis and Milan. However, the Beacons responded later in the half as they cut Jessup's lead to three at 20-17 with 11:01 left.

From there both teams traded runs before the Warriors closed the half strong as Milan and Jaydon Clark hit back-to-back threes giving Jessup a 14-point lead.

At halftime, the Warriors led 46-32 thanks to eight unanswered points.

In the second half, the Warriors blitzed the Beacons with a 12-0 run thanks to scoring by all five starters and was capped off by a three from Jourdan Johnson that gave the Warriors a 30-point lead.

While the Beacons answered with an 8-0 run of their own cutting Jessup's lead to 22, the Warriors never let NWC within 20, cruising to a 97-73 victory.

After Milan's 28, the Warriors got some good production from Medearis as the senior grabbed his first double-double of the year with 13 points and 10 rebounds while dishing out seven assists something Von Vogt noted was another key to the victory.

"Medearis played his best game of the season by doing whatever the team needed and Milan performed at a high level again. We'll need both those guys to play well going forward to reach our ultimate goals."

Jourdan Johnson made the most of his first start of the year adding 15 points and Erik Kinnebrew also had a nice game off the bench with 13 hitting 3-of-4 from three.

The Warriors will play again tomorrow against Oregon Tech, tip-off is set for 3:30 p.m.
