Warriors earn first GSAC road win at LPU

SAN DIMAS, Calif. - The Jessup men's basketball team bounced back nicely Saturday afternoon when they won their first conference game of the season in the battle of the Warriors at Life Pacific 71-62.

Jessup (6-3, GSAC 1-1) scored the opening points of the game on a Luis Medearis lay-in but got off to a slow start the following seven minutes as LPU took an 11-7 lead at the 13:07 mark.

However, the road Warriors responded with an 8-3 run as they took a 15-14 lead at the 11:25 mark capped off by an Isaiah Milan three-pointer. Later in the half, Jaylen Johnson then extended the Jessup lead to eight at 22-14 ending a 7-0 run.

With 3:49 left in the half, Austin Dill hit back-to-back free throws that gave Jessup their first double-digit lead of the game.

But LPU cut the lead back down to three with just over a minute left and at the half, Jessup held a 38-34 advantage.

In the second half LPU got off to a quick start tying the game at 40 by the 18:49 mark and then both teams traded small runs the following four minutes.

Then Jessup went on an 8-2 run giving them a 10-point lead (56-46) with 10:29 left. In the following three and a half minutes, LPU responded with their own run bringing the score to 61-60 with 6:20 remaining.

Nonetheless, Jessup used some good offensive execution to grab a seven-point lead after a dunk from Sam Howlin with 5:29 left and in the final minutes, Jessup went 4-for-4 at the free-throw line to grab the nine-point victory.

Jessup was led by Milan who scored a game-high 20 points and grabbed five rebounds. Medearis also had a solid game scoring 15 points, while Jayden DeJoseph added 11 points and a team-high six rebounds off the bench, and Sam Howlin rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10.

Jessup will continue their stretch of road games when they travel to St. Augustine, Fla. to face Flagler College Dec. 16 at 4 p.m.
