Warriors Fall to No. 9 Lions on the Road

COSTA MESA, Calif. – The Warriors two-game winning streak came to a halt as they lost 75-44 to the No. 9 Vanguard University Lions on Saturday afternoon.

After the game, head coach Kurt Westendorp spoke highly of the competition saying, "Vanguard is a very difficult match-up for us and they were clicking on all cylinders today." He added, "They showed why they are a top-10 team."

In the opening quarter, the Warriors struggled to establish consistency on offense as they only scored 5 points, while giving up 12 to the Lions. During the second quarter, the Warriors offense saw a spark but they would struggle on defense. At the half the Warriors were down 18-36.

Coach Westendorp acknowledged his team's tough outing saying, "We struggled to get things going at both ends of the court."

It was a quick start on offense for the Warriors as Lily Hagerty scored 5 points in a matter of seconds forcing the Lions to call a timeout. Out of the timeout, Emilee Van Dyke would tally two more points for the Warriors after a nice spin move in the paint. Coach Westendorp said, "I'm pleased with our run to start the third quarter, but we didn't validate it on the defensive end."

By the end of the fourth quarter, the Warriors had lost 44-75. The loss puts the Warriors record at 18-9 and 9-7 in conference play. Coach Westendorp concluded by saying, "We will shift our focus quickly to game plan to finish out the regular season with two home games next week. We will be ready to go!"
