Warriors Lose in Tough Return Home

Midweek matchup will be followed by conference play Friday

LINCOLN, Calif. - After a long road trip, the William Jessup Warriors returned home Tuesday afternoon in a 12-4 loss to the Benedictine University at Mesa Redhawks.

It was a shaky start for the Warriors as they allowed two runs in the opening inning. The Warriors were quick to respond, however, by putting up two runs of their own after the opening frame had concluded.

The next two innings were quiet as each team failed to put up any runs. That narrative would soon change as the Redhawks had their highest scoring inning as they had five runners cross the plate in the top of the fourth inning. Similar to the opening inning, the Warriors responded but it wasn't quite enough as only one run was recorded.

As the game continued on the Warriors would only score one additional run while allowing five more for Benedictine. The Warriors will have two days off before hitting the field again on Friday and Saturday for a pair of doubleheaders against Ottawa University - AZ as conference play continues on.

Jordan Williams led the Warriors going 3-for-4 followed by five teammates with a solo hit each.

"It was not the result we were looking for today but there were some bright spots," head coach Trevor Paine commented. "Shion Matsushita threw two good innings and Jordan Williams continued to swing the bat well. We need to use these next two days to prepare well and get ready for a big conference series this weekend."
