ROCKLIN, Calif. - The William Jessup baseball team split a pair of games with the Ottawa University Spirit on Friday afternoon, winning game one 7-3 and falling in game two, 8-3.
In the series opener, it didn't take long for the Warriors to get things rolling as
Joe Starick got on base with a single and he would advance to second after
Kawaiola Takemura reached on a walk. With two runners on,
Anders Green brought Starick across the plate after recording his first hit of the game.
Austin Swift continued the scoring as he hit into a groundout but was able to bring Takemura around the bases for the games second run.
Cal Koga reached on a single and Green scored as the Warriors scored their third run of the inning.
The second inning was kickstarted by a
Noah Shackles single followed by Starick hitting a single as well, but Starick would reach second base off a fielding error while Shackles made his way around for the fourth run of the game.
Meanwhile,
Micah Gunter pitched two scoreless innings and the Warriors led 4-0 early on. After two scoreless innings for Jessup, the Spirit would score three consecutive runs. The Warriors would match the Spirit's lone run in the fifth inning while adding two more insurance runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Through a combined effort from Gunter,
Jordan Yu, and
Tyler Fujimoto, the Warriors held the Spirit scoreless over the final four innings as the Warriors won 7-3.
The Warriors were held scoreless through two innings and once they got a run across the plate in the bottom of the third, they were down 4-1. The deficit would increase as the Warriors found themselves trailing 5-1 in the bottom of the sixth inning. Two runs would be added to the Warriors total but it wasn't enough as they went on to lose game two, 8-3.
It's another quick turnaround for this Warrior ball club as they host the Spirit for another doubleheader on Saturday with game one set for a 10:30 AM first pitch.
