Warriors bounce back to get to GSAC tourney championship game

A strong start helped WJU overpower Master's in GSAC conference tourney

IRVINE, Calif. - Just one day earlier, the Warrior baseball team lost just their second game in the last 6 weeks and on Wednesday night, in a win or go home game, Jessup dominated The Master's University with an 11-5 victory as they advance to the GSAC championship.

Starting on the mound for the Warriors was Ashkhon Kuhaulua who pitched WJU out to a strong start allowing no runs until the sixth inning.

Simultaneously, the Warriors bats came alive in the fourth inning thanks to Will Law who brought in the Jessup's second run of the game. Then later in the inning, Noah Shackles doubled to left field as Law came around to score giving Jessup a 4-0 lead.

However, in the ensuing inning, Master's battled back as they crushed a 2-run homer cutting the lead to two.

But that wouldn't be the end of the scoring surge for the Warriors as Jordan Williams doubled to center field bringing in Duitsman and Anders Green followed up with a single to center to bring Williams in. The Warriors then capped off the inning as Green scored on a fielding error by Master's giving them an 8-2 lead.

In the eighth inning the Warriors added three insurance runs that proved to be enough despite the comeback attempt for the Mustangs in the final frame for the 11-5 victory.

Austen Swift led the charge at the plate with three hits, an RBI, and two runs scored. Williams, Green, and Law also added two hits a piece to round out the Warriors offensive attack.

Kuhaulua would collect his sixth win of the season in seven-innings allowing just two runs on three hits while striking out nine batters.

The Warriors will now have a chance at redemption in the GSAC Championship game as they'll face conference rival Hope International Thursday with the first pitch set for 2 p.m.

The Warriors are 3-2 against HIU this season.
