Warriors fall in semi-final of GSAC conference tourney

After getting just a win away from another conference title, the Jessup baseball team's comeback effort fell short Tuesday night losing 8-6 in the GSAC conference tournament's second round matchup against Hope International.

From the outset, the Warriors had to play catch up after giving up three runs in the opening frame.

Then after a scoreless second inning, the Warriors began to mount a slow but gradual comeback. The Warriors went on to score a run in six consecutive innings, kick-started by a single from Jordan Williams that brought in Joe Starick in the third inning.

Then later, Kawaiola Takemura, Anders Green, Williams, Noah Shackles, and Will Law had key hits that helped bring the Warriors within a run by the eighth inning.

But with the score at 7-6 in the bottom of the eighth inning, Hope International added another insurance run giving them a two-run lead they wouldn't relinquish.

Takemura, Williams, and Green all had solid nights at the plate tallying three hits apiece and bringing in a combined four runs.

On the mound, the Warriors used four pitchers as Grant Doi took the loss after pitching just a 1/3 of the first inning. Steven Talbert last the longest for WJU pitching  3 2/3 innings allowing five hits, and no earned runs while facing 18 batters.

The Warriors return to the field tonight to face either Westmont or The Masters at 6 p.m. from OC Great Park.

The GSAC conference tournament is a double elimination tournament, so the Warriors will need to win tonight to get another shot at Hope International tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m. for the conference tourney championship.
