Warriors Announce Launch of 15th Varsity Sport, STUNT

ROCKLIN, Calif. - William Jessup University Athletics is excited to announce the launch of their 15th varsity sport, STUNT, set to start in the Fall of 2020.

"Jessup Athletics is consistently pushing the envelope and doing our research to identify the best opportunities for us to grow collegiate athletics at our university," Athletic Director Lance Von Vogt said. "STUNT is an emerging sport that was birthed right in our backyard at Rocklin and Antelope High Schools. Because of that, we have an amazing recruiting base in Northern California, not to mention STUNT is one of the most exciting sports I've come across in a long time."

"The sport of STUNT combines technical and athletic components of cheer, while including partner stunts, pyramids, basket tosses, group jumps and tumbling," as defined by USA Cheer. They compete in a four-quarter head-to-head competition, the one that executes the best skills wins.

The executive director of USA Cheer, Lauri Harris is excited to partner with the Warriors in launching what is said to be the fastest-growing female sport in the country.

"We at STUNT and USA Cheer are extremely excited for Jessup to be adding a STUNT program to their athletics department! Being located in the heart of where STUNT started at the high school level just 7 years ago with Rocklin High School and Antelope High School, makes them the perfect location for a collegiate STUNT program."

Harris believes Jessup is at the center point of a nationally rising sport, "With nearly 150 schools now playing STUNT at high schools in CA alone, and hundreds more across the country, Jessup has a huge base to recruit from. We look forward to partnering with them to establish a strong STUNT program for high school female athletes to continue their STUNT careers into college at such a prestigious university."

Competing in the Spring of 2021, the Warriors will start the recruiting process immediately with athletic scholarships available, as well as the hiring process for a head coach. If you're interested in joining the Warriors in the historical launch, please submit your information to the STUNT Recruit Questionnaire. As well if you are interested in applying for the head coaching position, you can find the job description and list of qualifications at www.jessup.edu/employment/.

"We will begin our national search for the first-ever head coach immediately and our goal will be to become a nationally recognized STUNT program," Von Vogt concluded. "I encourage all interested prospective student-athletes to reach out to Jessup Athletics."
