Warriors battle well in 2OT thriller at CSU Stanislaus

TURLOCK, Calif. - The Warriors from William Jessup and Stanislaus State played just like their name-sake and had an all-out defensive war that ended on a penalty kick that found the back of the net Thursday night for the home team.

Jessup (0-3-1)  has historically played well against Stanislaus (2-0) and did so again pushing the NCAA Division-II Warriors to the limit in double overtime. This is Jessup's second 2OT match in the last week after tying with Antelope Valley last week.

Head coach Greg Lazaga said he was pleased with how his team bounced back from a tough loss last weekend. 

Both teams played to nearly a draw in every category including shots and saves as Jessup had eight shots and two saves, while Stanislaus had seven shots and two saves. The two teams also combined for five shots on goal in the match with Jessup's two coming in the first overtime.

Lazaga also said that his team will simply need to take advantage of scoring opportunities in the future to win matches like this.

Jessup returns to the field Saturday on the road at 11 a.m. when they'll take on Holy Names at Cal State East Bay.
