Jessup earns dominant road win at SDC

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The Jessup Women's Volleyball team got their first GSAC road win sweeping San Diego Christian in straight sets 25-18, 25-22, 25-15 Saturday afternoon.

Jessup coach Tiger Shelton said he was pleased with the Warrior's effort that helped them get back to .500 in conference play. "Today was a great game to rebound from last night's loss.  We were still a little disappointed about yesterday so out the gate we were a little bit flat."

The Warriors (5-6, 2-2 GSAC) were tested from the opening serve as the Hawks (4-6, 0-3) traded points with Jessup most of the first set. Neither team was able to grab more than a 2-point lead until the Warriors went on a 5-1 run late in the set  to win.

In the second set, SDCC took an early 2-0 lead and controlled most of the set until Jessup grabbed a 12-11 advantage. From there the Warriors offense went on a 4-1 run and led 16-12. While the Hawks fought back late in the set, Jessup proved too much and closed out the set with the help of two kills from Vendela Williams.

In the third set, SDCC continued to fight Jessup as they led 9-6 forcing a Warrior timeout. Coming out of the time out the Hawks took their biggest lead of the set at 12-8 but Jessup responded with an 17-3 run led by Williams who had four straight kills and a set-high 9 kills in the final game of the day.

The Warriors offense was led by Williams who finished with 15 kills, followed by Taylor Jacky with 10 and Hannah Henriksen with seven. Kacey Berger also had a solid floor game with a team-high two aces, and 18 digs. Henriksen also led Jessup with three blocks, followed by Laurie Stephan with two. Jessica Williams led Jessup with 23 assists.

Shelton also said he hopes the win gives the Warriors some momentum leading into their next home stand as they'll play three straight in Warrior Arena in the next two weeks. "The staff is asking the girls to push past their limits and it's just going to take a little more time until we're able to do it for three-consecutive sets on a regular basis. But overall they did really well and I'm really proud of the way they responded."

The Warriors return home Saturday when they'll host conference rival Menlo at 2 p.m.
