Game Recap: Women's Volleyball | | Christopher Engelage

Warriors put up a strong fight in three-set loss

The Warriors fought hard all match long but came up short losing in three sets.

ROCKLIN, Calif. - The Jessup volleyball team returned to Warrior Arena Saturday afternoon but came up short in a three-set match against the Menlo Oaks, 25-18, 25-23, and 25-19.

After notching the first point of set one, the Warriors gave up five-consecutive points and were playing catch-up right out of the gate. Towards the end of the set with Jessup trailing 20-14, the Warriors made a late run as they scored four of the next five points. Unfortunately, the run ended and Menlo closed out set one, 25-18.

Despite digging themselves into an early hole in set two trailing 9-3, the Warriors responded well as they scored six of the next seven points and a service ace from senior Kacey Berger forced the Oaks to call a timeout. Coming out of the timeout, the set remained a closely contested battle as it was tied on nine different occasions before Menlo escaped with a narrow 25-23 set win.

Set three was similar to the opening two sets as the Warriors were down early. After falling behind 6-1 to start, the Warriors clawed their way back and tied the game at nine after a well-executed kill from Taylor Jacky set up by Berger. As the set dragged on it would be tied four more times but the Warriors were unable to hang on as the Oaks outlasted them 25-19 in the final set.

Ashanti Grayer led the Warriors in kills with 10 while Brianne Whitt had a team-high 18 assists and Berger closed out the game with 15 digs.

The Warriors will be back on their home floor next Friday at 5 p.m. when they host Ottawa University (AZ).
