Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Quinton Lilley

Warriors fight well in home loss to UC Merced

ROCKLIN, Calif. - The Jessup men's soccer team had another solid defensive start, but ultimately lost 2-0 to the visiting UC Merced Bobcats Tuesday afternoon.

The match began in a duel by the back lines but Ioan Muresan found himself with two-shot opportunities in the 10th and 20th minutes missing high as the game remained tied.

The Bobcats (3-1-2) took the early lead in the 30th minutes when an offsides call on the Warriors (0-5-1) pulled them back from the advantage resulting in a change in possession.

In the final 15 minutes of the first half, both teams continued to battle on the defensive ends of the field allowing just one shot combined as Merced went into halftime with a 1-0 lead.

In the second half, the Warriors attacked first as Brad Baum put a shot on goal but it would be the Bobcats who responded with the next 11 shots, and on their 12th attempt, they found the back of the net for the 2-0 advantage in the 82nd minute.

From there the Bobcats kept possession of the ball for the majority of the final eight minutes to secure the win.

The Warriors will return to home field on Thursday to take on Simpson at 3 p.m.
