Warriors win thrilling four-set match over OUAZ

The Warriors won the opening two sets and closed out the match by dominating set four.

ROCKLIN, Calif— The Jessup volleyball team notched another conference win in Warrior Arena as they took down the visiting Ottawa University Spirit in four sets winning, 25-21, 28-26, 24-26, and 25-12.

Set one was a back-and-forth battle as both teams went toe-to-toe. During the early stages of the set, the Warriors (6-7, 3-3 GSAC) were caught playing catch-up and after tying things up on five different occasions, took their first lead at 12-11 off a service ace from Kacey Berger. The timely serve from Berger would bolster the Warriors momentum as they didn't surrender the lead for the rest of the set, winning 25-21.

In the second set, the Warriors were trailing most of the second frame until Alicia Borges caught fire from the service line as Jessup scored four consecutive points, tying the set at 16 apiece. After falling behind again and trailing 26-25 with the set on the line, the Warriors went on a 3-0 scoring run stealing set two 28-26.

Despite having the momentum on their side, the Warriors were unable to close out the Spirit in straight sets as they lost in set three in extra points, 26-24.

Once again the Warriors were able to respond to adversity in a positive way, putting together their best set as they won it in dominating fashion, 25-12. Head coach Tiger Shelton said that conference wins don't come easy, "It feels good, the Spirit are a strong team and came in ready to play."

Coach Shelton also noted the adjustments his team made from their previous game saying, "We worked really hard on some things and changed stuff we'd done when we played Menlo and it worked out well for us tonight."

Shelton said he was happy with the whole team's performance collectively. "It's a whole team effort. I couldn't say more, I'm so proud of them for coming out here and fighting."

Vendela Williams led the Warriors in kills with 15 and the team also had strong contributions from Hannah Henriksen with 14 and Taylor Jacky who finished with 13. Jessica Williams had another fantastic game distributing the ball to her teammates finishing with a team-high 27 assists. Kacey Berger also played a phenomenal game with  26 digs and ended the match with five service aces.

Jessup continues their homestand Saturday as they host Arizona Christian at 12 PM in Warrior Arena.
