Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Quinton Lilley

Record setting day leads to 13-0 win

ROCKLIN, Calif. - On Monday afternoon Jessup soccer fans saw a record-setting 13-0 win over Pacific Union thanks to a much-needed offense surge by the Warriors.

Jessup set a program record for goals (13), total points (33), and the second-most assists (7). Individually, Heriberto Trevino had a tremendous day setting a single-match record with six goals.

Coach Greg Lazaga said he was pleased with his team's effort and hopes this is a sign of things to come. "I loved our attacking mindset, in pregame we talked about ways to get ourselves into better positions to score. I thought our first group did a good job of accomplishing that."

Lazaga also noted that his bench did an excellent job building on what the starters did in the first 30 minutes.

The Warriors (2-5-1) have now won back-to-back matches at home and got off to their fastest start all season when they scored twice in the opening two minutes of play.

Freshman forward Josh Freeman kicked off the match with a goal on an assist from Ioan Muresan, then just four seconds later Karam Idris scored to give the home team a 2-0 lead.

Jessup continued to attack but six consecutive shots were missed before Muresan found the back of the net from Idris in the 22nd minute.

After grabbing a 4-0 lead, Pacific Union (0-5) was completely on their heels as the Warriors continued their defensive pressure causing Pioneer mistakes on the backline. The Warriors again found the net in the 33rd minute when Paul Anderson scored on another assist from Muresan. Trevino then entered the game in a huge way scoring back-to-back goals in the 35th and 37th minutes.

Jadon Bernier scored in the 39th minute and Trevino grabbed himself a hat trick just before halftime as the Warriors led 9-0.

In the second half, James Ramos scored his first goal of the season followed by another three goals from Trevino to close out the match.

Jessup will look to continue their strong play at home Wednesday when they'll host UC Santa Cruz at 3 p.m.

Lazaga said their upcoming match will provide his team another opportunity to prepare for conference play. "Wednesday will be another good test for us. We always want to push our tempo on our opponents and on Wednesday it will be important to carry this idea over and force our opponents to adjust to us."
