Jessup shows 2nd half resilience in 3-1 loss

ROCKLIN, Calif. - A comeback effort fell just short Wednesday afternoon as the Warriors lost 3-1 to UC Santa Cruz.

In the opening minutes, the Warriors (2-6-1) controlled most of the action as they got two shots on goal before the seventh minute, however, UCSC (4-4-1) responded shortly after with a goal in the 11th minute to take the early lead.

The Warriors continued their valiant effort on the attack as shots by Heriberto Trevino and Paul Anderson were just wide allowing UCSC to cling to their 1-0 advantage. 

In the 37th minute, the Banana Slugs found the back of the net taking a 2-0 lead into halftime. 

In the second half, the Warriors were back with an offensive advantage finding great scoring opportunities. Then in the 55th minute, when Jessup got on the comeback trail as Brennan Chanty found Tanner Federico on a long throw-in as Federico scored his first goal of the year cutting the deficit to 2-1.  

Anderson, Josh Freeman, and Karam Idris all had game-tying shots but the Banana Slugs goalie negated each of them.

The final goal would seal the deal for the Slugs as they took the 3-1 advantage with 10 minutes remaining in regulation.

The Warriors will be back on the pitch next Thursday as they open GSAC play to take on nationally-ranked Westmont at 4 p.m.
