Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Quinton Lilley

Warriors drop road contest at Oregon Tech

ROCKLIN, Calif. - A slow start proved to be the difference Sunday morning as the Jessup women's soccer team lost 5-0 at Oregon Tech in non-conference action.

Head coach Rachel Moorehead said her team's early struggles put them in a deep hole. "OIT caught us when we were very flat and unfortunately we couldn't recover during the half and we are not proud of those 45 minutes."

The match was Jessup's (1-3) only out of state contest and playing on the road against a quality opponent proved to be a challenge as the Owls (2-2-1) scored twice in the opening seven minutes.

OIT later added two more goals to push their lead to four.

After trailing 4-0 at halftime, Moorehead said she felt her team regrouped well and played much better. "We gave a lot of critique during our halftime speech and the players responded immediately in the second half."

In the final 45 minutes, the Warriors allowed just nine shots total as Moorehead said those improvements were noticeable almost immediately. "The changes they made on the field were both evident, physically and mentally (and that's something we can build on)."

OIT's final goal of the day came at the 62-minute mark to give them the five-goal lead for good.

"This team has the talent to perform at a much higher level, and we'll continue to push them to get there." Moorehead continued, "We are looking forward to this coming week and rebuilding our confidence in front of the goal."

The Warriors return to the field Thursday in a road match at 3 p.m. against Simpson University.
