Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Josh Carson

Warriors use big second-half to win 93-81 over OUAZ

ROCKLIN, Calif. - After an undefeated week on the road, the Jessup men's basketball team returned home and made it three wins in a row on Thursday night, defeating OUAZ 93-81. Jessup (14-6, 6-2) used a second half-run to overcome OUAZ (6-11, 2-6).

Coach Lance Von Vogt cited depth as his team's key to success saying, "Our word for the year is consistency and to find it in the GSAC you have to be able to win on nights when you don't have your best stuff and I believe tonight was an example of that."

Fresh off a 15-point performance on Saturday when he entered the top-10 all-time in scoring, Luis Medearis continued to find the bottom of the net with an and-one and back-to-back three-pointers as the Warriors jumped out to an early 14-3 lead.

The Spirit went on a 15-5 run to take the lead, but Jessup regained the advantage with an Austin Dill dunk assisted by Wilson LaShells.

The lead changed hands five more times before the half ended as OUAZ led 43-42.

The Warriors came out of halftime strong as Medearis and Isaiah Milan connected on back-to-back layups. Oliver Amajoyi followed with two- straight layups to stretch the Warrior lead to seven.

Another three by Medearis followed by a Tarren Storey-Way layup gave Jessup a 67-54 lead with 11:28 remaining.

Matt Lyon, who played valuable minutes with Milan's foul trouble, connected on a three-pointer a few plays later to increase Jessup's lead to 14. This was all part of a 28-13 run.

Von Vogt commented on Lyon's play saying, "Matt was our secret weapon. When Zay (Milan) got in foul trouble and then later fouled out, Matt stepped up and closed the deal for us. We see it every day in practice and it was great to see his hard work pay off in a game."

Jessup wouldn't trail for the rest of the game as they finished with the double-digit victory.

Despite the foul trouble, Milan dropped 15 points. Three other Warriors finished in double-figures as Medearis led all scorers with 27, Storey-Way contributed 14 off the bench, and Amajoyi posted 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Looking ahead, Jessup will take on Arizona Christian on Saturday to which Von Vogt said, "ACU is one of the most talented teams in the GSAC and they are going to test us in every way. We will need to be focused mentally and really execute on the defensive end to be successful. It will be a great test for us."

The Warriors' match-up with ACU is at home on Saturday and tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
